Proofreading
You've finished your final draft. It's perfect - until after you hit "send." Then there it is: a glaring error, and now it's too late to go back and fix it.
A proofreader finds the errors in your final draft that hide in plain sight. I'll look over your work with "fresh eyes" to find those hidden mistakes.
Copyediting
Your boss hands you copies of a document to hand out before an important meeting. You notice a typo and tell him before it gets handed out. That's proofreading.
On the other hand, if your boss hands you a document and tells you to check it for spelling, punctuation, and grammar, and fix his mistakes before you print it out, that's copyediting.
Let me do that copyediting for you! I'll check your spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and word choices to make certain you're writing clearly.
Beta Reading
You've let your trusted friend read your manuscript, and while their feedback was very nice, you wished for a deeper critique. What you need is a beta reader. That's where I come in.
A beta reader reads and evaluates your manuscript from the perspective of your reader. I'll give you feedback about what works and what needs polishing. I'll tell you where your writing is terrific, where my eyes started to glaze over, and if something didn't make sense. Every story, memoir, or fanfic needs an objective beta reader. Let me be yours!
My prefered genres are historical fiction, fantasy, mysteries, and memoirs, but I will tackle just about anything.

ABOUT ME
As a child of an English teaching violist and a dog-loving librarian, I grew up surrounded by books, language, and music. I assumed that everyone’s parents had their friends over to read Shakespeare, that every kid was dragged to the symphony once a month, and that every kid couldn’t wait for their weekly trip to the library. I was disappointed to find out otherwise.
I became a teacher in both in the classroom and school library. I’ve taught at all levels, from pre-K through high school. High school book club morphed into a Book/Writer’s Club because so many of my readers were closet writers too. Who knew that my student from El Salvador was terrified that the gangs her family fled from would somehow find her here in America, that Thorin Oakenshield from The Hobbit didn't really die, that "My Little Pony" fanfic was an actual thing, or that kids who were floundering in English Lit were too embarrassed to ask for help? Their writing did. I became the safe person to help them polish their stories and essays.
I can do that for you, too. Let me be that safe person to nurture, nudge, and encourage you on your writing journey.
